Mandy working for a history project

Unearthing secrets of the past

Mandy is doing some freelance writing work for a history project in Assynt, which will be delving into the past life and death of people who lived here in the past. Over the next few months, Mandy will be using her writing skills to help the project in various ways, including as a guest blogger for AOC Archaeology, whose archaeology team will be carrying out three digs.

The first is at Clachtoll Broch, a 2000-year old building that has never been professionally excavated. You will be able to read all about what the archaeologists unearth in the 'dig diary' here.

After Clachtoll, the archaeologists will go further back in time, to a neolithic burial chamber from 6000 years ago at Ledmore. Then they will excavate a longhouse at Glenleraig, probably abandoned about 200 years ago when people were cleared from the land to make way for sheep.

It will be fascinating to see what the archaeologists discover during these three digs. The Clachtoll dig begins on 8 August 2011.
